Title I, Program Improvement, Supplemental Educational Services, and Choice

Berkeley Unified School District receives Title I funding from the federal government annually. Title I funds are used to help disadvantaged students meet state academic standards.

The No Child Left Behind Law sets requirements for the district and schools receiving Title I funds to demonstrate Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP).

In 2011-12, BUSD did not meet Title I requirements and continues to be identified as a Program Improvement (PI) District in Year 3.  Additionally, several schools either remain in Program Improvement (PI) or have attained Program Improvement status. These schools are:  Berkeley Arts Magnet Elementary, Cragmont Elementary, Emerson Elementary, LeConte Elementary, Oxford Elementary, Thousand Oaks Elementary, Washington Elementary, Longfellow Middle, Willard Middle school, and B-TECH.
