Berkeley Schools Participate in World Read Aloud Day
This Thursday we will be celebrating World Read Aloud Day (WRAD) in the Berkeley public schools! A number of district staff, parents, and community members will be appearing in every preschool classroom to read Llama Llama Red Pajama, and other stories, to celebrate the joy and importance of reading aloud at all ages.
In anticipation of World Read Aloud Day, students at Cragmont and Thousand Oaks Elementary Schools already welcomed two popular children’s book authors for a chat.
Students enjoyed interacting via Google Hangout with Laura Shovan, author of Last Fifth Grade Class at Emerson Elementary. Her book was read by many students as part of the Mock Newbery Club earlier this year, so chatting with her live was very exciting!
Local author Annie Barrows celebrated World Read Aloud Day a few days early in the Cragmont School library, sharing many anecdotes about her lively Ivy and Bean characters.. This is one of many special events sponsored by the BUSD Library Program during the school year.
