The Superintendent’s recommendation to consolidate the Two Way Immersion (TWI) programs at three schools into one TWI School, based on the pedagogical needs of our students and logistical concerns with implementation, is being brought to the School Board at this Wednesday’s (May 9th) School Board Meeting. The presentation of the recommendation is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. as a discussion item during the regularly scheduled Board Meeting in the District Office Council Chambers (2134 MLK Jr Way). The Board is not scheduled to take action but to receive the Superintendent’s recommendation as information and plan the next steps. The Board is scheduled to take action on this item at the June 6th meeting.
The Superintendent’s recommendations to the School Board address issues of location, model, resources, sibling preference, transportation, staffing considerations, and program monitoring as well as clarity of purpose as they relate to the formation of one TWI school. His recommendations are supported by the work of both the English Learner Master Plan Work Group and the Two Way Immersion Task Force.
Note: Every School Board Meeting consists of a period of public testimony that commences at 7:30 p.m. Information about speaking during public comment is available on the Board Meeting Agenda (PDF).
