Board Will Hear All Ten Candidates on May 1st
At the board meeting on Wednesday April 24th, the Board approved the list of applicants to fill the Board vacancy. Board President Karen Hemphill announced that they would invite all ten candidates to a Special Board Meeting on May 1st, where they would be given three minutes to address the Board. She outlined a process that will be facilitated by the Berkeley-Albany League of Women’s Voters. The League will also facilitate Public Comment. That process will be provided to the candidates and posted on the District website this week.
The meeting will take place in Council Chambers, 2134 Martin Luther King Jr. Way. Please note that the meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be broadcast live on Berkeley Community Media Channel 33 and on KPFB Radio FM 89.3.

At the board meeting on Wednesday March 27th the Board approved the timeline and process to fill the vacancy on the BUSD Board of Directors. They also approved the application that includes nine questions for the candidates to answer in 200 words or less. The application process is fully outlined in the Timeline and Process to Fill Vacancy on the BUSD Board of Directors document below.
Applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, April 15, 2013. All applications must be submitted to Deborah Turner, Secretary to the Superintendent:
- by email (firstname.lastname@example.org), or
- in person (2020 Bonar Street, Room 321).
All applications must be received by 4:00pm on April 15, 2013. The time of receipt will be determined by the time stamp on the email, or by Ms. Turner if submitted in person. Late applications will not be accepted. There will be no exceptions or appeals if it is determined that an application was submitted late. Ms. Turner shall provide applicants with a receipt.
