At the school board meeting on December 11th the BUSD Board voted to adopt the policy on Gender Identity/Sexual Orientation/Harassment. See the board policy discussion and action on Gender Identity/Sexual Orientation Harassment: https://vimeo.com/81695715

The Board chose to adopt the policy instead of receiving it for a first reading because the policy aligns with current practice in the District, and the administrative regulations will give administrators clear direction. The Board crafted the policy to provide all of the same protections for transgender students as California Assembly Bill 1266, while avoiding any reference to the legislation, so that the policy will not be impacted by efforts at the state level to overturn the legislation with a ballot initiative.
