2014 WE CARE Awards Recognize Nine Classified Employees
Nine exemplary classified employees were recognized for consistently demonstrating the WE CARE principles of Willingness, Empathy, Consistency, Aptitude (knowledge), Responsiveness, and Effectiveness (quality). Superintendent Evans and Deputy Superintendent Cleveland presented the awards on Staff Development Day. In its third year, this has become an annual recognition of the important contributions classified staff make every day in our school district.
District administrators submitted nominations of classified non-management employees to be considered for the WE CARE Award recognition. The nominee needed to demonstrate all the principles of WE CARE as well as being someone respected by their peers. To qualify, the nominees must work in a service department at the school site or central office including administrative staff, instructional assistants, safety officers, as well as staff in the custodial, maintenance, technology, payroll, human resources, risk management, education services, research and assessment, BSEP, food services, student services, parent and community engagement, fiscal services, special education, superintendent’s office and transportation departments. Nine employees were selected from nearly 30 names nominated. All of the honorees received multiple nominations.
All Proofs must be current originals (issued within the last 2 months) imprinted with the name and current Berkeley residential address of the parent/legal guardian. A student can have only one residency for purposes of establishing residency and must be living in Berkeley when submitting forms.

Immunization
If your child is new to Berkeley Unified School District or starting preschool, transitional kindergarten, kindergarten, or 7th grade, you will need to provide your child’s school with documentation that your child has been fully immunized. California state law (Senate Bill 277) no longer allows parents/guardians of students to submit a personal belief exemption form for any currently required immunizations.
Children who have not provided BUSD with documentation verifying they have received all required immunizations prior to the first day of school will not be allowed to attend school until all immunization records have been provided.
