In Dulci Jubilo Art, Poetry and Essay Reception Held at Malcolm X Elementary School
In Dulci Jubilo, Inc. has sponsored a district-wide Art, Poetry and Essay Contest for fourth and fifth grades for the past 31 years, and this year the reception took place at Malcolm X Elementary School on April 17th. In Dulci Jubilo presented the winners to a packed house of parents, family, teachers, principals and administrators. This year’s theme was “Memoir: A Story Worth Remembering!” The students are invited to the awards reception, but do not know their placement until they see their work on display at the reception. The level of excitement is the same whether students are awarded first place or an honorable mention, as they pose in front of their work for a photo by a proud parent.

Queen Graham and the In Dulci Jubilo Board extend their appreciation to all of the principals and teachers who worked with their students to bring some of the best entries the judges have seen in years, and to the many teachers and principals who attended the event to honor their students. Berkeley City Council-member Laurie Capitelli, Board President Josh Daniels, Superintendent Donald Evans and Assistant Superintendent Neil Smith attended and participated in the program.
Each student received a cash prize; an IDJ gold medal with their name engraved on the back; and certificates from State Senator Loni Hancock and Assembly-member Nancy Skinner, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors and In Dulci Jubilo.
