Willard Middle School Student Entrepreneurs Launch Unique Food Enterprise

Willard Middle School’s “Growing Leaders” pilot program served up its first takeout meal on Thursday October 2nd. For $10 a portion, 49 Willard families and nearby epicureans were going to feast on Pork Chile Verde with herbed rice and Napa cabbage slaw. They quickly sold out on-line and added 35 meals along with 35 more by mid-afternoon!
It’s the first of a yearlong series of seasonally-inspired, twice-monthly meals planned, grown, cooked, marketed and distributed by Willard students, mentors and teachers.
The meals are part of Willard’s new “Growing Leaders Program” designed to sustain and build upon Willard’s beloved 17-year old cooking and gardening program through the sale of takeout meals, produce, vegetable starts, and “Farm Store” products such as salsa, pickles and applesauce.
