Berkeley High Jazz Ensemble’s Combo A was one of only three high school jazz combos nationwide invited to participate in a two-day Charles Mingus Festival in New York. The BHS musicians went on to win first place in their division, and all four students received individual recognition awards given to only 12 festival participants.
On the heels of their success in New York, these same musicians joined the Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble for their annual performance at YOSHI’s Oakland, where they played their winning Mingus set for a packed house. Check out their performance as well as the award-winning BHS Jazz Ensemble.
