At the September 30th School Board Meeting, Pasquale Scuderi, Assistant Superintendent for Educational Services, will present the first in a series of three reports on the “Essentials of a High Quality Educational Program.” These presentations provide the context for understanding the major components of the educational resources currently funded by the local special tax known as BSEP (Berkeley Schools Excellence Program).
The presentation will include a discussion of key program investments in class size reduction, professional development, music and visual and performing arts, libraries, and technology; essential elements in our district’s ability to offer an educational program that provides our students with foundational skill-building and creative learning. The full paper is available here.
As staff begins to engage with the community over the next year in preparation for an election to reauthorize the BSEP Measure in November of 2016, a series of papers will help frame discussions on existing programs, discuss potential adjustments to current program investments, as well as explore opportunities for innovations in the way in which BSEP supports and enhances the overall educational experience of students in the Berkeley Public Schools. BSEP Director Natasha Beery will also provide a BSEP Measure Planning update to the Board at the September 30th meeting, including the process for articulation of educational priorities, the review of budgetary models, and support for a significant community engagement prior to the finalizing of the BSEP measure components in the spring of 2016.
