Berkeley High teacher Xin Chin has been developing a strong Mandarin language program at BHS for the past decade, and has taken the program to a new level with a new partnership with the Confucius Institute at S.F. State University and the Chinese Consulate. Together, they have brought the Confucius Classroom program to Berkeley High School.
The inauguration ceremony began with performances by Ms. Chen’s Mandarin Classes – songs & dances that expressed the extent of their comprehension of Mandarin Chinese. This was followed by comments from BHS administrators, the Confucius Institute and the Chinese Consulate General before the unveiling of a bronze plaque that will be mounted in the Confucius Classroom. Superintendent Evans and other guests joined the speakers for the unveiling ceremony, and the lunch reception that followed for the 360 students who attended the ceremony.
