Since the inception of the Berkeley Schools Excellence Program (BSEP) in 1986, a district-wide advisory committee has taken an active role in overseeing the implementation of our local parcel tax. The BSEP Planning & Oversight (P&O) Committee has been vigilant in safeguarding the BSEP dollars, ensuring that the funds generated by the voter-approved tax measure are spent according to the terms of the Measure.
The P&O Committee, mandated by the BSEP Measure and comprised of representatives from every school, meets regularly to:
- Review the implementation of the many programs funded by the BSEP Measure, ranging from Class Size Reduction to Music & the Arts, from Technology to Professional Development for Teachers, and much more;
- Ensure that BSEP funds are spent in compliance with the Measure;
- Make annual recommendations to the School Board for the use of BSEP funds.
P&O Committee members include parents, teachers, students and community members, with representation from every school, who volunteer their time to attend one or two meetings a month, and serve as key communicators between the committee and their respective school communities.
All meetings are scheduled on Tuesdays and held in the District Office (2020 Bonar St.) from 7-9:30pm. The meetings are governed by the Brown Act and are open to the public. A complete schedule of P&O meetings, as well as meeting agendas, materials, and minutes are regularly posted here.
A listing of this year’s school representatives is also available on the P&O Committee webpage.
