While teachers have been readying their classrooms, curriculum planning, and attending professional development over the last several weeks, they were officially welcomed back to school on Friday. We are now just two days away (Tuesday, August 30) from opening our schools for the start of the 2016-17 school year.
Behind the scenes, our operational, technology, and administrative staff have been working around the clock to make for a smooth start to the school year. The custodial and maintenance staff does a heroic job of doing the deep cleaning and needed repair so that our students return to clean and safe schools.
A number of facility modernization and school yard projects are also finishing up just in time for the start of school. Here’s a quick run-down of some improvements we’ve been working on over the summer:
New Construction at LeConte Elementary
To make way for growth in elementary school enrollment and new space for our Transitional Kindergarten program, two portable classrooms and a bathroom facility were installed this summer on the west end of the LeConte school yard.
Final touches were taking place this past Friday.
Facility Modernization Project at John Muir Elementary School
Upgrades to John Muir School have been in the works all summer, and classrooms are being readied to receive students and families next week. The final stages of the project will continue early into the school year.
