Presents:
2017 College & Career Awareness Week, March 6 – 10
Dream Forward: Discover – Learn – Live
The 2017 College & Career Awareness Summit is part of a week-long series of events to engage Berkeley’s students in college and career related activities beginning on March 6, 2017. Our goal is to create several opportunities for students to “dream forward” about future college and career possibilities.
Throughout the week, students of all ages, preschool through high school and beyond, will participate in college and career awareness activities that includes guest speakers talking about their professions, hands-on activities, fairs, presentations, student panels, school library programs and more. Below is an outline of many events planned for Berkeley’s public school students. There will be a “Summit Kick Off” Tuesday morning, March 7th at 10:30am at the Berkeley Repertory Theatre that is open to the public. As the emcee for the event, Skyler Barton from Berkeley City College will welcome students from Berkeley Technology Academy, and Berkeley High School (BHS) students who participate in the AVID, RISE, Bridge and Y-Scholars programs. Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin, BUSD School Board President Ty Alper, Berkeley City College President Rowena Tomaneng, Berkeley City Manager Dee Williams-Ridley, and several students will be featured guest speakers. The Summit is part of Berkeley’s remarkable community collaboration, the 2020 Vision for Berkeley’s Children & Youth, a cradle-to-career initiative launched in 2008 with the goal of providing equal opportunities for all children regardless of race, ethnicity or income and eliminating the achievement gap in Berkeley schools. The Summit is organized by the Mayor’s Office with other City staff, Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD), Berkeley City College (BCC), UC Berkeley and other community partners.
