A letter from Superintendent Evans is going out this week to all district families about the importance of family preparedness plans, with special advice for immigrant families, many of whom have concerns about keeping their families together due to the potential for immigrant enforcement actions (ICE).
The Immigrant Legal Resource Center has created Family Preparedness Plans to help families think about emergency childcare situations. Copies in English, Spanish and Chinese can be downloaded at www.berkeley.net/familyprepare, and printed copies are being provided to every school.
Anyone can use this plan, regardless of immigration status, although our immigrant families have special concerns that are also addressed in this packet, including knowing their rights and resources in case there is concern about an undocumented member of the family.
The City of Berkeley has also created a flyer in English and Spanish with information about immigrant rights and local resources, and this flyer is also being distributed to all schools this week as well.
