Superintendent Donald Evans enjoys visiting our classrooms whenever he can, and last Friday, April 28, found him reading about llamas to kids aged 3-5 at Franklin Preschool.
His text was the picture book, Is Your Mama a Llama?, and his enthusiastic audience was Nelly Caloca’s class, the only bilingual preschool class in the district. (A Spanish version of the book also was available: ¿Tu mamá es una llama?.)
Dr. Evans was also treated to an impressive exhibition by the 23 young artists in Gladys Biscocho’s classroom, a project made possible by funding for art supplies from the Berkeley Public Schools Fund. The exhibition, now in its third year, and the story reading by the Superintendent were part of the final day of activities centered around the Week of the Young Child.
