The enthusiasm was as warm as the unseasonable weather Friday night, June 16, when the Class of 2017 kept tradition very much alive with a grand graduation ceremony at the Greek Theatre.
More than 3 pages in the program were needed just to list the names in small print of the 799 graduates, including 775 from Berkeley High School and 24 from Berkeley Technology Academy.
Words of welcome in 14 languages were offered by students following the processional music by the BHS Jazz Combo. Many cheers accompanied the program’s energetic musical and dance performances by students, and many more cheers continued to erupt during the extended reading of names and awarding of diplomas one-by-one on the stage. Cued by Superintendent Evans’ formal acceptance at the end, the ceremony closed in high spirits with students reversing their tassels followed by many caps tossed into the air.
