BUSD students were welcomed back today not only with enthusiasm and spruced-up classrooms, but many of them also received a cheerful in-person welcome from Superintendent Donald Evans and Berkeley Mayor Jesse Arreguin.
The Superintendent and Mayor began their day together with visits to Washington Elementary School, Willard Middle School and Berkeley High.
The two leaders also used the opportunity to connect with many parents and staff on their rounds.
“We have one of the most amazing school districts in the United States,” Mayor Arreguin told parents and staff gathered in the Library at Washington. He noted the District’s commitments to equity and justice, for example.
Dr. Evans extended his wholehearted welcome to students as the pair paid visits to several classrooms.
The Superintendent also released a “Welcome Message” video to all families. More photos from the first day of school can be seen on our facebook page.
