On Wednesday, June 27, 2018, the BUSD School Board approved a one-year extension of Superintendent Donald Evans’ contract.
The vote will extend Dr. Evans’ tenure to June 30, 2020, taking him into his seventh year at the helm of the District. Dr. Evans joined the District in the 2013-14 school year for an initial three-year term. In 2016, the School Board approved another three-year contract, ending on June 30, 2019, with a provision to permit the Board to extend once for one additional year, as it chose to do.
In other action at its June 27 meeting, the School Board approved:
- the 2018-19 BUSD budget, after a brief presentation and discussion which followed an intensive year-long public process of building consensus through working with the Superintendent’s Budget Advisory Committee and incorporating community and stakeholder feedback and input. Details of the budget were presented at the June 13 Board meeting and can be found under item 14 in the online agenda packet for the June 13 meeting.
- application for funds for electric school buses. To help lighten the District’s carbon footprint, the Board authorized staff to apply for funding for electric buses from the California Energy Commission, through the School Bus Replacement Program which provides $75 million in grant funding to public school districts and county offices of education to replace old diesel school buses. See item 12.13 in the online agenda packet for the June 27 meeting.
