Berkeley High School African American Studies Department/African-Haitian Dance Program continues the tradition of its fall dance concert by presenting “Longevity – 50 Years Strong.”
The evening is sure to delight, surprise and engage the audience with a journey from Africa, to Haiti, to the Harlem Renaissance with the Lindy Hop and BHS’s own Jazz Band transporting you to the days of Ella Fitzgerald. Where would Hip Hop be without first hitting the urban jungles of New York with Breaking, as well as more contemporary fare of modern bringing us to remember the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, Southern Steppin, Salsa, Praise dance Hip Hop and spoken word of the urban griots/storytellers/rappers.
With pieces choreographed by both teachers and students, this is certainly not a performance to be missed! Support the arts and Berkeley High School students as they breathe life into dance both ancient and modern, and bring insights into who they are and some of the journeys and challenges they have embarked on and where they hope to land.
