Many members of the community are aware of the distressing news that Berkeley School Board President Judy Appel and her wife Alison Bernstein were critically injured shortly after midnight on January 5 when they were struck by a vehicle as they were walking in Berkeley. They were rushed to a local hospital, where their medical care is continuing.
In the meantime, the School Board is continuing with its regular schedule of meetings, with Vice President Beatriz Leyva-Cutler presiding.
We deeply appreciate the many expressions of concern and care from the public for the Appel-Bernstein family, and we join in the hopes and prayers for their full recovery.
