All schools will be open in BUSD today, October 29. PG&E has notified the District that no schools will be affected by the next Public Safety Power Shutoff.
We are following Alameda County and State guidance on activities in schools relative to the Air Quality Index (AQI).
The Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) provides more local air quality data. BAAQMD reported an AQI level of 67, considered to be moderate and in the “yellow” zone, at Aquatic Park at 5 am today. AirNow.gov is reporting a reading in the “yellow” zone in Berkeley at 6:00 am today.
Readings at this level are considered to be “Moderate.” For children and adults with medical sensitivities, like asthma, the federal government states:
Unusually sensitive people should consider reducing prolonged or heavy exertion.
At this time, outdoor activities are not limited at BUSD schools. Since the AQI changes hourly, we will continue to review these levels to determine if outdoor activities will be limited later today.
