As we work together to slow the spread of COVID-19 in our community, please remember that all BUSD facilities are closed to the general public. This includes not only school buildings, but all playgrounds, parks, and sports courts and facilities associated with any BUSD property including the King track, the Berkeley High School football field and the Derby Field.
Some facilities open on a limited basis for essential services only, including meal distribution services.
The March 31 Shelter in Place Order issued by City of Berkeley Health Officer Dr. Lisa Hernandez states that use of recreational areas with high-touch equipment or that encourage gathering, including, but not limited to, playgrounds, outdoor gym equipment, picnic areas, dog parks, and barbecue areas, is prohibited outside of residences. The order further states that the use of shared facilities for recreational activities outside of residences is also prohibited.
“Closing schools limits the spread of the virus among families, but to make that decision meaningful, families and children need to stay home except for essential activities,” said Dr. Lisa B. Hernandez, the City of Berkeley Health Officer. “I urge parents to avoid playdates and social gatherings. Our community depends on you.”
