BUSD is currently looking for skilled individuals to support several short-term projects over the coming several months. The district seeks to offer paid contracts to individuals or groups with skills in writing and communication, online meeting facilitation, planning, and project management. BUSD employees who seek additional responsibilities are also encouraged to apply.
A brief description of these projects is below:
Project Manager, Student COVID-19 Testing, Screening, and Supplemental Support
As the school district moves steadily toward reopening schools into a hybrid model this Spring, we seek an individual or group who can serve as project manager for student COVID-19 testing and screening. Work in this area will entail ongoing communication with PMH Labs (BUSD’s testing partner), creating testing schedules for the district and individual schools, managing communications with parents and guardians about testing procedures and reimbursements, and organizing volunteer staff. Project management experience is required.
Time Involved: Full Time
Duration: 5-6 months; February – June, 2021

Specialist, Communications
The Communications Team is in need of assistance to keep up with the pace of demands for providing information and engagement opportunities for our families, staff and community. We are looking for experienced technical support for a number of communications projects, with strong writing skills, capable of editing, formatting, and working in multiple formats. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Project support may include:
- Web posting and updates
- School Messenger and Remind messages
- Social media posting including using tools such as Canva
- Email newsletters (Constant Contact, other platforms possible)
- Basic photo and video editing
- Engagement platforms such as Thought Exchange, Poll Everywhere
Time Involved: Variable, 8-15 hours per week
Duration: 5-6 months; February – June, 2021
Pay: In keeping with other contract employment
Note: We are also looking for note-takers for public meetings, on an hourly basis.
Facilitator, EL Master Plan Community Engagement
In December, 2021, BUSD seeks to present a revised EL Master Plan to the Board of Education for approval. In the coming months, BUSD central office staff will engage community members, staff, and families to offer input on these revisions and review drafts as they are developed. Work in this area will involve meeting planning and facilitation, writing, editing, and managing feedback from both meetings and surveys. Experience in public education and with English Language Development is required.
Time Involved: 5-10 hours per week
Duration: 10 months, February – December, 2021

Facilitator, Middle School Student Assignment Community Engagement
In November, 2021, the Board of Education has asked that staff present a proposal for the revision of the district’s student assignment process for middle school. In the coming months, the district will engage a broad segment of the BUSD community to share data about enrollment, solicit ideas about middle school enrollment, and develop proposals for the Board of Education. Work in this area will involve meeting planning and facilitation, managing and summarizing feedback from both meetings and surveys, and the creation of presentations. Experience in public education or public policy is preferred, as is experience with facilitation and communications.
Time Involved: 5-10 hours per week
Duration: 10 months, February – December, 2021
