The BUSD Board of Education is seeking members of the community who are interested in serving on the 2022-23 District Advisory (7–11) Committee. The Committee would work with District staff to evaluate only the property known as previous home to Oxford Elementary School, (located at 1130 Oxford Street, Berkeley CA 94707) to determine if this real property should be deemed “surplus”.

The formation of the committee, mandated under California Ed Code, Section 17388, promotes transparency and allows the community to provide input into the process and the eventual recommendation.
The District is looking for applicants that meet the following criteria defined in Education Code Section 17387-17389 that states “shall consist of not less than seven nor more than 11 members, and shall be representative of each of the following:
(a) The ethnic, age group, and socioeconomic composition of the district.(b) The business community, such as store owners, managers, or supervisors.(c) Landowners or renters, with preference to be given to representatives of neighborhood associations.(d) Teachers.(e) Administrators.(f) Parents of students.(g) Persons with expertise in environmental impact, legal contracts, building codes, and land use planning, including, but not limited to, knowledge of the zoning and other land use restrictions of the cities or cities and counties in which surplus space and real property is located.”
