Dear Berkeley Unified Community,
I hope that you are warm, dry, and safe this evening. I want to give a quick update from today and share our plans for tomorrow. Although we experienced temporary power outages at some schools today, as well as disruption of some phone and internet services, teaching and learning continued across the district.
We are addressing some minor water leakage at some schools this evening, but nothing significant. I thank many BUSD staff who have been working hard through the day and this evening to address storm-related challenges impacting the district.
Although the school day was relatively dry, the rain has picked up this evening, and more rain and heavy winds are forecast for tomorrow. We expect all BUSD schools and programs to be open tomorrow.
While we will be ready to welcome your students at school tomorrow, we also understand that families need to make individual decisions regarding what is best for their children. Please remember to follow your school’s attendance reporting protocols. We will update the community if there are significant changes to our plans for tomorrow.

Estimada Comunidad en Berkeley Unified:
Espero que esta noche estén abrigados, secos y a salvo. Deseo informarles brevemente acerca de las novedades de hoy y compartir nuestros planes para mañana. Aunque el día de hoy hemos sufrido cortes temporales de electricidad en algunas escuelas, así como interrupciones de algunos servicios telefónicos y de Internet, la enseñanza y el aprendizaje han continuado en todo el distrito.
Esta tarde noche estamos tratando de abordar algunas fugas de agua menores en las escuelas, pero nada significante. Agradezco a muchos miembros del personal de BUSD que han estado trabajando arduamente durante el día y esta noche para hacer frente a los desafíos relacionados con la tormenta que ha impactado al distrito.
A pesar de que la jornada escolar ha sido relativamente seca, la lluvia ha arreciado esta tarde, y para mañana se pronostican más precipitaciones y fuertes vientos. Esperamos que todas las escuelas y programas de BUSD estén abiertos mañana.
Mientras mañana nosotros estaremos preparados para recibir a sus estudiantes en la escuela, también entendemos que las familias deben tomar decisiones individuales acerca de lo que es mejor para sus hijos. Por favor recuerde seguir los protocolos de notificación de asistencia de su escuela. Actualizaremos a la comunidad si se producen cambios significantes en nuestros planes para mañana.
