In a January 8 press release, State Superintendent Tony Thurmond shared that wildfires have forced the closure of over 300 schools across Southern California, impacting more than 211,000 students. To mitigate the financial impact of these closures, Thurmond has launched a fundraising campaign through SupplyBank.org Disaster Relief Fund. This campaign aims to support students, families, educators, and school staff affected by the wildfires. Donations will fund essential needs such as housing assistance, food, water, clothing, and school supplies. The California Department of Education (CDE) is actively working to assist schools in navigating this challenging situation. State Superintendent Thurmond is urging Californians to come together in support of impacted students, families, educators, and school staff.
“In times of crisis, Californians consistently demonstrate their resilience and generosity as we continue to deal with the effects of climate change,” said State Superintendent Thurmond. “Let’s continue to unite and support those in need as they work to stay safe and rebuild.”
