Berkeley Unified School District Shows Gains on the API and AYP
BUSD had an overall growth of 5 points on the Academic Performance Index (API). BUSD saw overall API increases of 31 points for English Learners, and 11 points for Socio-Economically Disadvantaged students as a result of targeted instruction to increase background knowledge and academic vocabulary. Gardening & Cooking programs bloom throughout Berkeley schools
The Network for a Healthy California, a federal program, funds garden and cooking programs at 6 of our elementary schools, 2 middle schools, as well as the preschools, Berkeley High and B-Tech. At King Middle School, the venerable Edible Schoolyard has been providing garden and kitchen experience for students since 1995.
