The modernization at the BHS Florence Schwimley Little Theater and Berkeley Community Theater aim to significantly enhance both the functionality and aesthetics to these historic buildings. Phase 1 of the Community Theater included upgrades and renovations to the dedicated classroom spaces in the building, as well as upgrades to the Student lobby and performer support spaces.
Phase 2 design introduces plans for a newly designed lobby addition that promises a welcoming and functioning space for students, staff and visitors. In addition, a new restroom facility is being designed, conveniently, on the school grounds level, addressing a long-standing need for better restroom amenities at the school site. This phase is also set to tackle essential seismic upgrades, ensuring the structural integrity of both the Community Theater and Little Theater. Accessibility improvements are also a key component of this phase, making the theaters more inclusive and navigable for individuals with disabilities.

Community Engagement
BUSD makes a serious effort to engage the community our campuses serve, so they can be aware of upcoming projects and have a voice in the process. There are many opportunities Berkely residents can learn about this Project.
