The modernization at Washington Elementary School will introduce an additional building that will include a new kitchen and food service experience for our students, as well as a new administrative space. This new administrative space will significantly improve the security of our campus ensuring all vsistor’s pass through the school’s main office before entering the premises. Additionally, the project will improve the restroom accessibility, along with incorporating new all-gender restrooms.
Beyond the kitchen and office updates, we will be making improvements to the school yard. This includes replacing an outdated play structure, creating an outdoor dining area, along with additional casual seating and social areas for the students. These spaces will be enhanced with new landscaping, including a few trees and new vegetation. The campus will also be receiving new site furnishings and racks for bikes, scooters and skateboards.

Community Engagement
BUSD makes a serious effort to engage the community our campuses serve, so they can be aware of upcoming projects and have a voice in the process. There are many opportunities for Berkely residents to learn about this Project.
