The Berkeley School Board meets approximately twice a month, on Wednesday evenings. All Board meetings are open to the public and we encourage the community to attend. Usually, the Board meets in “closed session” at 6:00pm before its regular open session begins at 7:30pm. Closed session is for the Board to discuss confidential matters, such as student or employee discipline, or meetings with the District’s legal counsel. State law strictly regulates what matters can be addressed in closed session. Almost all of the Board’s business is conducted in open session. Note: While closed session usually starts at 6:00pm, and open session usually starts at 7:30pm, please check the meeting agenda to confirm the start times.

All Regular meetings of the School Board are held in the Board Room at 1231 Addison St., unless otherwise noted on the meeting agenda.
Ample parking is available in the large lot on Browning St. just beyond where Addison and Browning Streets intersect.
Public Comment: FOR THE DURATION OF THE COVID-19 PUBLIC HEALTH CRISIS, Board meeting will be held on Zoom. Information on participating in meetings, including public comment, is found at http://www.berkeleyschools.net/schoolboard/board-meeting-information/zoom-info/.
The Board hears public comment at each meeting. There are three opportunities for public comment at each meeting. If you wish to comment on a matter that the Board is hearing in closed session, you may speak before the Board begins closed session, which is usually at 6:00pm. Please arrive at the Board meeting room by 5:45pm to indicate that you would like to speak prior to closed session. The Board then hears public comment soon after beginning the open session of the meeting at 7:30pm. The Board allocates thirty minutes for public comment during its open session. If you would like to speak, you must fill out a speakers’ card and give it to the Board’s recorder by 7:30pm. Not everyone who submits a card gets to speak; it depends on how many people wish to speak in the thirty minutes allotted. Finally, there is another 15-minute public comment period at the end of the Board meeting, which is usually at approximately 10:45pm. Again, please confirm these times on the actual agenda of the meeting, which will be posted below, as occasionally the timing of the meetings change.

Agendas and accompanying information: By state law, the Board’s agendas must be posted 72 hours in advance of the meeting. Often the agendas are posted online by Friday evening before a Wednesday Board meeting. The agendas and accompanying information (sometimes called the “packet”) are posted on AgendaOnline.net. Board Resolutions: Occasionally, the School Board passes a resolution to affirm a shared position or recognize a significant honor or statement. The most recent board resolutions are all posted here.
