The Superintendent’s Disability Equity and Special Education Advisory Committee (DESEAC) plays a key role in supporting the District to achieve its mission by providing an open forum to discuss issues related to students with disabilities. The committee receives updates on BUSD special education programs and initiatives, reviews anonymous special education data, and makes recommendations on areas of growth for students with Individual Education Plans.
Areas of advisement include:
- To enhance the educational experience and improve educational outcomes of students with disabilities.
- To prepare students for a successful life beyond BUSD.
- To inform BUSD policy, planning, and practices.
- To monitor the experience and progress of students with disabilities and to proactively address needs.
- To provide a public forum for exchanging information and input between the BUSD community and the North Region SELPA CAC BUSD representative.
- To implement the Disability Awareness and History Month Resolution approved by the School Board on December 6, 2023
The Superintendent’s Disability Equity and Special Education Advisory Committee (DESEAC) voting members may include 21 representatives from the high school, middle schools, elementary schools, community at large members and student representatives.
DESEAC is staffed by the district’s Executive Director of Special Education and occasional guests from the special education department.
