Our Vision: BUSD buildings will be constructed and maintained in healthy, safe, and sustainable ways.
Collaborative High-Performance Schools (CHPS) Standards
The Facilities Department has adopted new construction standards aligned with the CHPS (Collaborative for High-Performance Schools) criteria to enhance student well-being while improving energy and water efficiency. Moving forward, all BUSD modernization projects will meet CHPS eligibility requirements to achieve CHPS Verified status.
By embracing these high-performance design standards, BUSD is driving positive change in the planning, construction, and operation of school facilities to:
- Safeguard the health and well-being of students, educators, and staff.
- Optimize energy and water efficiency while conserving natural resources.
- Reduce operational costs and enhance long-term sustainability.
- Minimize waste, pollution, and environmental impact.
These efforts reflect BUSD’s commitment to creating healthier, more sustainable learning environments that benefit both students and the broader community.
